It is a layer that can be slipped on over your thickest jumper and still drape beautifully while giving you total freedom of movement. Fit wise this coat is very over-sized and roomy so if you’re in-between sizes it’s recommended to choose the smaller size. The volume has been added to the pattern through a dropped shoulder, deep armholes, wide sleeves and a wide main body. There are a few different design options with this piece and you can pick and choose which you like to create a garment that’s to your liking. The options include: Two different types of pockets, welt pockets and patch pockets. You can choose to make this piece fully lined or unlined. The pattern comes with a sleeve tab to create small gathers at the cuff. These gathers are mostly a design feature but it also helps to stop cold drafts going up the sleeve and also to help manage the extra volume in the piece. Topstitching details are fully customisable and its a chance to add character to your piece or keep it sleek and minimal. The pattern comes with an optional belt which is recommended for lighter weight fabrics. Shoulder pads are a nice touch if you’re making a lined version but they’re not 100% necessary. As it’s such a dropped shoulder it can add a bit of structure which smartens the piece up a little, especially for coats made with wool.
